19 Dead, 13 Injured in Hoima–Buliisa Road Accident

Police in the Albertine Region said 19 people died and 13 were hurt in a bad accident last night at 11:00 PM on the Hoima-Buliisa road.

The accident involved a Fuso truck (UBB 639W) carrying market vendors from Wanseko-Buliisa Market. The truck couldn’t climb a steep hill in Kigorobya Town Council, rolled backward, and flipped over, causing the crash.

The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police are still looking into what caused the accident.

Road accidents are a growing problem in Uganda. In 2024, there were 25,107 crashes, up 6.4% from the year before. A total of 25,808 people were affected, with 5,144 deaths, a 7% increase from 2023.

Police are asking drivers, especially those with large trucks, to exercise extreme caution to prevent such accidents.
